"And this is life eternal, that they might know thee, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom thou hast sent." John 17:3.
The atheist stopped a boy on Sunday morning and ask where he was going. "To Sunday school," he said. "And what are you going there for?" the atheist ask. To learn about God," was the boy's reply. "And how do you know there is a God?" the atheist ask. "Because my Sunday school teacher knows Him," was the boy's reply.
One preacher quoted in "The Readers Digest" was asked if he had found God. "No," he replied, "But I am seeking God, and that, I believe, is the essence of religion anyway." But Jesus expected a man to be able to know God. A personal knowledge and acquaintance with God.
"He that cometh to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of them that diligently seek Him." Hebrews 11:6.
An atheist cannot come to God for he must first believe that He is. He must also believe that God will hear his cry. "That He is a rewarder of them that diligently seek Him." That He really cares about you.
"No man has seen God at any time; the only begotten Son, which is in the bosom of the Father, He hath declared Him." John 1:18.
Jesus declares or reveals and shows forth the Father. If you want to know what God is like, look at Jesus.
The Bible also reveals God, even as it reveals Jesus Christ. "God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish but have everlasting life." It is all God's love, but it is in Jesus Christ.
"For in Him (Jesus) dwelleth all the fullness of the Godhead bodily." Colossians 2:9. "For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus." If you want to know God you have to come by way of Jesus Christ. "I am the way, the truth and the life. No man cometh unto the Father but by me." John 14:6.
When you come by Jesus Christ to God in simple faith, believing, then God gives you the knowledge, the assurance that is more than just faith. It is a God given faith that is a rock, steadfast and sure. Christ is with you, in your heart every day. "Christ in you, the hope of glory." Colossians 1:27.
Man with cataracts on his eyes, was sent to the great surgeon, but told to take plenty of money. He took 500 dollars and visited the surgeon, who looked at his eyes. Then he said "I can operate on these eyes, I am afraid you cannot pay my fee. It is ten thousand dollars." The man said, "Then I shall have to remain blind the rest of my life. I only have five hundred dollars." The doctor said, "That is not nearly enough, but there is a way out. Since you cannot meet my terms, and I cannot come down to your amount of money, I can , however, perform the operation gratis, which is what I will do."
Man could not come up to the righteousness of God, God could not lower His standard, but in God's love He sent Jesus to pay it all. Therefore salvation is all free, it is gratis. "The wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord."
