![]() The Old PathsbyElder James W. Black" Thus saith the LORD, Stand ye in the ways, and see, and ask for the old paths, where is the good way, and walk therein, and ye shall find rest for your souls. But they said, We will not walk therein." Jeremiah 6:16 Israel had wandered from the path that God had made, and in which He had directed them to walk. God called them, through the prophet, Jeremiah, to come back and walk in the path that he had made for them, but they would not. So God sends affliction on them. Even so, it is this day. God has marked out a plain path for His people to follow, and He has given explicit directions in His Word, (the Bible), whereby they may know the path, and how to walk therein, but many who claim to be followers of Christ, reject the directions of God, and choose to walk in a path of their own making. Many of those who are children of God, and who desire to follow His leading, have been deceived by the "fair speeches" of those who do not care for the directions of God, and have not walked in the old paths that God has mapped out in His Word. Are we any better than Israel? Do we think that we can disregard the plain directions and calling of God, and go unpunished? Israel was oppressed severely by their enemies, and suffered the spoiling of their loved ones. The people of God today, because of refusing to walk in the way of God's order, have suffered depression in material things, but greater than these, have they suffered; even depression of their soul, till their souls are lean and many have come to the verge of despair, and not only so, but their children have been swept away from them by the enemy, even Satan himself. Verily, I believe that many thousands of them, who are lost eternally, can truly say, "The path of God was hidden by His disobedient children, and I was confused." O God, help thy people to repent and "stand in the ways and see, and ask for the old paths," and to walk therein, when they have found them. Many today, do not heed the voice of God, through His Word; this is the way, walk ye in it." But they heed instead, the voice of man, as he "directs"; even men who are usurping the authority of Christ, as the Head of the church, presuming to "direct the work of the church" through boards, committees, or other man made heads. No wonder, God is displeased. The Lord Jesus Christ, the true Head of the church, has given directions for the work, in the Bible, so we need none other to direct. If you believe that God is all sufficient, and only Head of the church, then you should walk in that path, with others who have the same faith. Many leaders, in this day, tell us that the directions in the Bible, were well enough for the peoples of that day in which they were written, but that they are not sufficient for the "ENLIGHTENED" people of this age. They say that "the writers made many mistakes, and were inaccurate in their statements." They have, by "their teaching", subtracted many vital truths from the Book, and have substituted therefore, their "wisdom of man." They have forgotten that "the wisdom of man is foolishness with God." If you believe that the Bible, as originally written, is true, and that it is the all-sufficient rule of faith and practice, then, you should walk in the path, with those who believe the same. Follow the path of God's faithful Word ~ not the misinterpretation of mere man. Many are trying today, to win the lost, and to interest worldly minded people, in the service of God, by man made methods and worldly pleasures. They seem not to believe God, when He said, "Not by might, nor by power, but by my Spirit saith the Lord.", and that "we are workers together with God", and that "faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.", and that we are exhorted to "love not the world, neither the things that are in the world" and that we are not to be filled with pleasures, but "to be filled with the Spirit." If you believe in God's way of winning the lost, and interesting those whose love has grown cold, in the things of God, then you should walk in the path of those of like faith. God is calling His people to walk in the old paths today. If you are His child, won't you hear His voice today, and heed it; to walk with those of like faith and purpose? A people who believe in the absolute independence of the church, from MAN RULE; in the truthfulness, and sufficiency of the Word of God, to lead men to life in Christ, through the Holy Spirit; and to furnish them for living a faithful life; a people who believe and teach ALL THE FUNDAMENTALS OF THE FAITH as given in the Word of God; they are a company of earnest, Bible believing, MISSIONARY BAPTISTS. They will not fellowship modernism, at home, or abroad, in missions, or otherwise. They bid you to come, and worship with them, in the old paths. ![]() Link Pray For:2. NEWS OF THE DAY![]() Link Hello to all! I'm a little late sending out an update, sorry. But there's much to report. We had a good work week at camp in June. Thank you to all who came to help! We appreciate all you did. Work has continued every weekend and though we are not on our original schedule- we're close. Last weekend we finished the old NewPine Creek cabin with a few small items left. And it looks great! No more room dividers, all open. The attached office/nurse's station has a new floor, new walls, and a beautiful Poplar tongue-n- groove ceiling. The back room of the cabin still needs a few little things, but wow, you'll be surprised when you see it! Thanks to some guys during the work week, the old Bend cabin is also finished. Good job, guys, thanks. We still need the porch leveled and finished. So here's what's done and what's needed:
The old "falling-down" Fossil cabin is in desperate need. We have not had much help getting the foundation ready to pour footings. Consequently, nothing has been done to this cabin at all except the bunks stained. Until that cabin is leveled and foundation sound, nothing can be done as far as windows, etc. This is an emergency situation. Even after shoring up the posts last year, the cabin took some stress over the winter. If we do not get this accomplished this summer, we will lose the cabin totally this winter. With more help, a willingness to work hard and steady, we could have this cabin ready to pour in a Saturday. This will require digging some holes for footings under the cabin. Please pray about this. Trees have been thinned and brush cleared all around the camp- looks wonderful! Chuck Dill and Joel Nance have been working on getting the grounds leveled. And new steps are in place up to the chapel. The cookhouse is our next focus. The back part of the cookhouse needs new footings (same as Fossil cabin) before we can install the last 2 windows and back door. Then we can also lay the last of the tile. We have been blessed- we found stainless steel for all new counters and work areas at an unbelievable price! (This was a big concern to me. Thank you, Steve!!) New steps, ramps, handrails are needed. We are still working on a solution for a fire suppression system for the cook stove. Please pray about this, too. The new campfire ring/fire pit is finished and it looks great! And last, but certainly not least, is a new shower house to build. Yes, a lot of work has been done- and a lot to go. But we have faith and know this is God's will. We have not taken reservations for next year, but it looks as though we already have 6 full weeks rented - of a possible 13 weeks! WE HAVE TO GET THIS DONE THIS YEAR!!! It has been more difficult this year with the economy so bad. One of the carpenters we relied upon had to move away. We have also lost the one who would do all the exterior painting. Many have not been able to help because of the mileage and the financial burden. So we're a little behind schedule, but we just keep pressing forward! So, whatever you can do and however much time you can spend helping is so much appreciated. Thank you all who have been financially supporting the camp with monthly checks and donations of supplies. We are at approximately $15,000 in funds available. This is for finishing up work to be done, licenses, fees, and general start-up costs (like propane, diesel, etc). We don't have a huge amount left to purchase, but we are still very careful how we spend the money! One other thing we would like to ask you for: certified wood stoves. The wood stoves we have now are not acceptable by USFS, state building codes, or the insurance company. These must be removed and replaced. Often these can be found in the want ads. If you have one to donate or can find one, please let us know. We will need 6 small ones for the cabins and a large stove for the chapel. Thank you again for your interest and support. We will continue working every weekend throughout the summer if you find time that you would like to come work. Pastors, please pass this info on to your churches. There are so many people to reach and want to know how things are progressing, but we don't have all the email addresses so we depend on you to pass on the updates. ![]() Link July 19th through July 25th, the First Missionary Baptist Church of Saint Helens, Oregon will be having their annual revival meeting. Evangelist Elder Norman Byrd will be preaching the revival. We should all pray for this meeting and if you can, travel there and attend. I am sure you will hear some good preaching.
