![]() GRACEby John R. Blalockof Portland, OregonGrace is goodness and kindness, however it is a kind of kindness that one does not deserve, and is unworthy of receiving. Grace is a kindness out of an all encompassing heart of love and compassion. Jesus was full of grace, (John 1:14) and He taught others to be full of grace. Jesus said, "When thou makest a dinner or a supper, call not thy friends nor thy rich neighbors; lest they also bid thee again and a recompense be made thee. But when thou makest a feast, call the poor, the maimed, the lame, the blind: and thou shalt be blessed; for they cannot recompense thee: for thou shalt be recompensed at the resurrection of the just." (Luke 14:12-14) I ask you, Just how many Christians or average church members or even pastors today do you find doing what Jesus taught? Do they not invite their friends and neighbors and then expect to be invited in return? Are they not offended often if they do not get the expected invitation? If we have truly been recipients of the Grace of God in Jesus Christ, we should be doing as He teaches. We should invite to supper only those who cannot recompense. If we do as Jesus taught, He promises two things: first, "Thou shalt be blessed." Jesus was acquainted with the blessing of bestowing grace. Paul says of Him, "Who for the JOY set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame." He was an offering made and a table spread that all who believe may come and partake, the poor, the maimed, the lame, and the blind the same as others. And you are blessed, your heart is filled with happiness, when you follow His word. Second, He promises recompense in the day of resurrection. I'm afraid that many Christians think that is too far away and too uncertain. But for the true Christian that is the only recompense he desires. That is his constant hope and strength, and it is sure, for Jesus said it. There is a day of resurrection coming soon, when Jesus shall come in the clouds, and His rewards with Him. Are you looking for that day?

Bro. Jacques Alexandre is a native Haitian working out of Tabernacle Baptist Church in Arlington, TX. He was just recently in our church in December and touched our hearts with the reports of the ministry God has given him. He is training national pastors, has several children’s homes in Port-au-Prince, and is helping start churches in remote regions of Haiti. Bro. Alexandre and his family survived the earthquake but their ministry has suffered devastating losses. I spoke to his pastor, Bro. Robin Webb, yesterday and he is planning on flying down as soon as flights are available. They will be trying to raise funds for supplies and to help this missionary help his people. We took an offering last night for them and are asking for financial help for Bro. Alexandre.
