LANDMARKINDEPENDENTMISSIONARY

What Is The Difference?

By Elder R. Y. Blalock

"But Jesus called them to him, and saith unto them, Ye know that they which are accounted to rule over the Gentiles exercise lordship over them; and their great ones exercise authority upon them.   But so shall it not be among you: but whosoever will be great among you, shall be your minister: And whosoever of you will be the chiefest, shall be servant of all.   For even the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give his life a ransom for many. " Mark 10:41-45

COMMITTEE~~ A body of persons appointed to manage any problem. ~~Webster.

BOARD~~ A number of persons elected to the management of some public or private office or trust. ~~Webster.

The Southern Convention Baptists elect a board to manage their mission work.   The American Baptist Association elects a missionary committee.   What is the difference?

The Southern Convention Baptists elect a Missionary-Secretary to travel among the churches, preach, and raise money for their missionaries.

In a report of Arkansas State Baptist Association given November 10th, 1942 in the Orthodox Baptist Searchlight we read the following:   "Elder A.T. Powers, Pine Bluff, was elected Secretary-Treasurer for full time, and he will travel among the churches and preach as only he can preach, leading souls to Christ, boosting the mission work, raising money to pay the missionaries, and in every way seek to build up the work of the Association."   I ask again, what is the difference?

The Methodists in their Conferences elect their Bishops to travel among their churches, "boosting the mission work, raising money to pay the missionaries, and in every way seek to build up the work" of the Conference.   What is the difference?

The Roman Catholics have their dioceses, and Parishes where the Cardinals visit, "raising money to pay the missionaries, and in every way seek to build up their work."   What is the difference?   I ask again.

Oh, yes I know the differences in doctrine, and in many things, but the autocratic method of electing, and putting someone over the churches to do a work that God gave to His sovereign churches and pastors to do, is aping Rome, and is a dangerous road for Baptists to travel.
