How sad the hearts, and hopeless As they leave Him in the tomb; With leaden steps and broken hearts They climbed up to the room. T'was here that just last evening They sat with Him at meat! T'was here He gave the cup and bread, Here He washed their feet! How long now seems the hours Now that hope is dead; Talk about His wondrous works, Recall the things He said!
Then in the light of early morning When the week has just begun, Hear the victory cry, "He's risen!" See the disciples run! "Come see the place", the angels said, "Where the savior lay" Lift up your hearts and sing, ye saints! For the battle won today! The son of God has conquered all, Now saints and angels sing Oh grave where is thy victory! Oh death where is thy sting!
